Position Objectives:

The City of York is accepting applications for the full-time position of Firefighter-II/NREMT.
 

Minimum requirements and skills:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 yrs. of age
  • Have a valid SC driver’s license
  • Requires a high school diploma
  • Must have IFSAC Firefighter-II certification
  • Must have NREMT certification
  • Required to pass the NFPA 1582 physical & Fit test
  • Must be able to perform heavy physical labor under adverse and demanding conditions
  • Must be able to work and live with peers while on a 24/48-hr. rotating shift
  • Must have significant levels of eye/hand/foot coordination
  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills

Specific Duties:

  • Duties to include but not limited to:
  • Duties can include fire suppression, overhaul, search and rescue, EMS, extrication, and haz-mat
  • Must be physically able to operate a fire apparatus, motor vehicle, a variety of firefighting equipment, hand and power tools and other equipment used in emergency responses
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Must be adaptable to performing in uncomfortable physical conditions and under extreme stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or dangerous situations or in situations in which working speed and sustained attention are make or break aspects of the job
  • Is knowledgeable of the department standard operating guidelines
  • Is able to show a high level of discretion and flexibility in daily operations
  • Receives required training to ensure knowledge of new techniques
  • Attends meetings and internal training exercises
  • Maintain the fire station, apparatus and all equipment therein
