YORK, SC - The City of York mourns the passing of Congressman John Spratt, who passed away on December 14, 2024, at the age of 82. Congressman Spratt dedicated his life to public service, representing South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District with honor and distinction for nearly three decades, always demonstrating an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of his constituents.
Mayor Mike Fuesser expressed his heartfelt condolences, stating: "On behalf of myself and the City of York, I extend our deepest sympathies to Jane and the entire Spratt family following the passing of Congressman John Spratt. A true statesman and devoted public servant, Congressman Spratt represented South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District, including York County, with unwavering integrity and commitment. His exemplary leadership and dedication have left an enduring legacy in our community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Rest in peace, Sir."
For the City of York, John was more than a public servant. He was a neighbor, a friend, and a source of immense pride for our community. He embodied the very best of what it means to serve others, always remaining humble and kind while achieving greatness on the national stage.

The City of York will lower its flags to half-staff in honor of Congressman Spratt’s life and service. His dedication to public service, his commitment to fiscal responsibility, and his kindness will continue to inspire generations to come. The funeral service for Congressman John Spratt will take place today, Wednesday, December 18, at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, located at 10 W. Liberty Street. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery.
