December 20th, 1842...
Mr. Witherspoon presented the Petition of the Fire Engine Company of Yorkville, for incorporation;
All members of the "Yorkville Fire Engine Company," and "The Greenville Fire Engine Company," not exceeding twenty-five each, in number, shall be, and they are hereby declared, exempted from ordinary militia duty, but shall be liable to perform duty in time of alarm, insurrection or invasion, and shall not be exempt from draft for actual service.
