Regularly scheduled workweek, Monday through Friday, during standard operating hours, averaging 40 hours weekly. Weekends and after-hours work as needed.

Position Description:
The Planning & Development Director is a key leadership role responsible for guiding York’s smart growth and preserving its historic charm. This position oversees zoning, inspections, code enforcement, and long-range planning—while managing staff, budgets, and strategic development efforts. As the city experiences rapid residential and commercial expansion, the Director plays a critical role in shaping policies and projects that support economic vitality, quality of life, and sustainable land use. With major planning initiatives underway, this is a pivotal opportunity to lead a high-impact department at the center of York’s transformation.

Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration or related field. (Master’s degree preferred).
- At least five to eight years of experience in planning, inspections or code enforcement. At least three years of supervisory experience.
- Strong GIS skills, excellent communication, and organizational abilities.
- AICP Certification Preferred Building Inspector or Plans Examiner Certification or ability to obtain required.
- Familiarity with SC Municipal Planning and Development Law.
- Must possess a valid SC or NC State Driver’s License.
