Drought Alert – City of York Due to ongoing dry conditions in the Catawba-Wateree Basin, Low Inflow Protocol (LIP) Stage 2 has been declared as of May 1, 2026. In response, the City of York will implement Phase 2 of its Drought Response Plan beginning May 6, 2026. What this means:

  • Voluntary reduction in overall water use
  • Mandatory restrictions on nonessential water usage
  • Limits on when certain water activities can occur
  •  

Recommended actions for residents:

  • Limit household water use to 300 gallons per day
  • Reduce lawn and landscape irrigation
  • Water only twice per week between 9 PM – 5 AM
  • Use handheld devices instead of sprinklers when possible
  • Avoid filling pools or water-based recreational equipment
  • Do not wash sidewalks, driveways, or buildings
